Traditions/Operations E

Standard

Yesterday morning one of my roommates and I had traditions, our other 3 roommates had the afternoon session. I had to wake up around 5:30 in the morning because I needed to walk from The Commons to Chatham to catch the bus. I was a little disappointed because on all of the vlog videos I watched everyone was asked trivia questions on the bus, and that didn’t happen on my bus ride.  Once we got to Disney university we got split into smaller groups.  Oddly enough I met a girl from my college during traditions .They did ask some trivia questions there, and the facilitators were really upbeat even though the information was kind of boring.   After a little bit they told us that they needed us to leave the room to rearrange, and when we came back in there was big red boxes in the middle of our table. When we were allowed to open them we were all really excited to get our own pair of Mickey ears.  After that it was more or less as interesting as a lecture class in college.  Finally they took us on a tour of magic kingdom, and we got to see the utlidoors! When we came back our boss came to give us our name tags. (I tried to upload a picture, but wordpress is being dumb 😦 )  After traditions I rushed home and went to magic kingdom with a girl I met at check in and her roommates.  This morning I had to be at Disney university by 7:30 for operations E and and introduction to merchandise, yes these were just as exciting as they sound.  Although I was exhausted I’m glad to finally be starting my dcp experience, and all of the instructors were so enthusiastic and made me realize even more how lucky I am to be doing all of this.

Check In/Casting/Housing Meeting

Standard

Tuesday morning I had check in, my roommates and I were all scheduled for check in from 9-10.  The process was pretty quick.  When we first got there we received our bibles

Once we were inside we found out where we’ll be working! I’ll be working in Epcot at Towers & Glow.  After we found where we’ll be living, luckily all the girls’ I was planning on rooming with got the same apartment as me.  We’re in the commons (thank god, we don’t have to leave our apartment for laundry).  At check in we also received our housing ids and our keys to our apartments.  After check in we had an hour break before casting so my roommates and I went and got lunch.  Then it was time for casting! Image

Casting was thrilling, first we had to go into a room and have someone make sure our I9 forms were correct, they also gave us our training schedules there. I found out after traditions Friday morning, I’ll have training Saturday, Sunday and Monday; then we got our background check and fingerprints done.  After that we took a bus back to our apartments. We had our mandatory housing meeting Wednesday morning.

When we got to our housing meeting there was laser lights and a fog machine.  It was a pretty boring meeting all in all, but the two girls’ running the meeting tried to keep it up beat and fun.  The whole meeting lasted about an hour and, it was casual we were allowed to come in pajamas if we wanted.

Traveling/getting ready for check in

Standard

So tomorrow I get to finally check in and get my apartment, and find out where I’ll be working.  I’m soooo excited, I’s only 5:30 and I already know I’m barley going to be able to sleep tonight.  Well I came to Lake Buena Vista/Orlando from New Jersey.  I was going to drive, but I got scared of driving 20 hours alone and took the auto train instead.  I thought the train would be awful, but it wasn’t so bad.  I was able to get a few solid hours of sleeping, it got me to Florida earlier than it was scheduled to, and I met a few CPs during dinner. Now I’m getting ready to meet my roommates for the first time, and all of this just still feels so unreal for me. This blog was pretty pointless, but I was excited and need to share.  Tomorrow or Wednesday I’ll post about check in and casting which will be a lot more informative than this one!

Bringing your car to DCP

Standard

So I was on one of the DCP facebook groups earlier, and I found out that if you are bringing your car, your name needs to be on the insurance card otherwise they won’t take it.  After about 10 minutes of stressing I called recruitment and found out as long as I bring deceleration paper that shows I’m an authorized driver that my car will be fine.  So make sure you have the proper paper work for your car, and make sure your registration is up to date as well.

DORMS stuff

Standard

Image

So yesterday I got my DORMS email so did a few of my roommates, but since I was the only one not busy at the moment I started to fill everything out.  The first page was personal information, emergency contact and stuff like that.  Eventually I got to the part where I had to put in everyone’s roommate numbers so we could be linked together.  Everything was going fine, until my last roommate informed all of us that she just that she’s very sick and that her doctor basically said getting to Disney by her arrival date wouldn’t be happening.  I had a moment of freaking out, I mean I had been talking to these other 5 girls for months now, I didn’t know what to do it was too late to look for a new roommate.  After talking to a couple of the other girls, we decided to go random with our last roommate. Once I finished filling everything everything out I received an email saying I was the “Linked-Leader” just because I was first to fill everything our.  I also received my housing boarding pass which I need to make sure I remember to print out before I leave.  Well, that’s really all the information I have on DORMS, hopefully you were more lucky than I was with your roommate situation, and if by some crazy situation my future roommate is somehow reading this, Hi, I’ll see you in like 2 weeks.

Starting to pack for DCP

Standard

Even though I still have over 2 weeks until my arrival date, I started packing today.  (Honestly I just wanted an excuse to not study for my last final so packing seemed perfect haha)  The very first thing I packed was my Social Security card.  It’s one of the things you can use for your I-9 documents, do not forget to pack whatever you decide to use for yours.  You can’t start without having them. I’m also using my license which I never take out of my purse, but make sure you have yours packed before you leave for Disney!  So before I started packing I did a lot of research on what to bring and I found a DCP survival guide.  It was really useful, not only did it give me ideas on what to pack , it had advice for during the program, it had a little bucket list on there, as well as some DCP lingo.  Although I probably should’ve made my own list instead of just going by the one from the survival guide, I’m too lazy.  Right now I’m still in the beginning stages of packing, I don’t even have one bag full. I’m sure that won’t last.  Once we get closer and I can pack everything I’ll make a more useful blog post about everything. Until then I hope this was at least a little useful for someone!

Getting Ready for DCP/Finals week

Standard

I leave for Disney in 18 days, but I still have 3 finals this upcoming week.  They are basically impossibly to focus on because I am unbelievably excited to runaway to Disney and get the experience of a life time. I’m not the best writer, but I’ve noticed most DCP blogs don’t make it passed the first week.  I wanted to start one that will continue through the entire program so that future DCPers know what to expect.  After finals (if I can focus enough on them) I’ll post a blog about what I’m packing and such.
